Founded in 1903, ABC Newspaper is one of the leading newspapers in Spain. In 2008, I joined the editorial projects team to design the new weekly supplements published by ABC: Empresa, ABC de la Familia, and a new version of B&N.
In 2009/10, as part of the plan to integrate the print and digital newsrooms, I took part in the redesign of ABC newspaper in both versions –as well as its supplements Empresa, ABC Cultural, Los Domingos de ABC and Familia–. My work covered the entire end-to-end process: from research and conceptualisation to strategic planning, ideation, design and implementation, as well as reviewing with the development team and training journalists.
Additionally, I created the newspaper’s design system, style guides, component libraries and complete pages. This facilitated the newsroom’s work and allowed news text and graphic content to be laid out easily, without the need for dedicated editorial staff. The editorial system Atex Hermes and InDesign were integrated for print, and Method 4.0 for web.

Key aspects of the redesign include the creation of the ABC typeface family (with 30 variables), enhanced photo editing and typographic control, less text and a larger reading body, with a focus on data visualisation through a shared infographic production for both web and print.

Empresa is a weekly economic publication covering business news, interviews with key figures in the economic landscape, and guidance on saving and investing. Infographics and illustrations make data easier to read and understand.

ABC cultural is a modern, visually driven supplement devoted to the Arts and Letters, recognised for the quality of its content and contributors.

Los Domingos de ABC is the Sunday edition, offering in-depth coverage of current affairs through reports and interviews.

Familia is a supplement addressing current topics related to family life through features, interviews, and news.
